I was actually surprised that there was not much mentioned on Speed or anywhere else about Higbee’s comeback after crashing in the restart lap 1, moving from 37th pos to 8th. He rode on about an inch of right footpeg and had slipped many times, a bent brake lever and in the last 7 or so laps no steering damper, the damper had become misaligned and slowly began its demise throughout the race until it no longer worked at all. I personally feel it was unbelievable riding and deserved recognition. Higbee drove by himself all the way from CA and with the help of volunteers and the generous help of the James Gang Hoban Brothers crew was able to put a competitive racing effort together. Plus practicing and qualifying on used tires no less. I personally feel it was a fabulous finish no matter how much I want to kick him when he is in “race mode”. :)
