redbullrookiescupAfter an exciting season which saw the championship go down to the final race, with Jakub Kornfeil nipping Sturla Fagerhaug by a mere two points, it has been announced that the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup will return for a fourth season in 2010. The application period is now open, with a closing date of Sunday, September 20, 2009. The application form is located at http://www.redbullrookiescup.com/application.php

Through the first three seasons of the Rookies Cup, the level of competition has steadily increased and the Selection Process has become more and more stringent. Applications are being sought from teenagers from around the world with high performance motorcycle experience. This year, applicants are asked to add proof of racing success to their forms, but this is not limited to only road racers, as motocrossers, dirt trackers, speedway and any other speed-sport competitors are welcome to apply. To qualify for consideration, applicants must be born between January 1, 1993 and March 31, 1997.

The most promising applicants will be invited to the official Selection Event in Europe on October 6, 2009. From that day of testing, a very select number of riders will be invited to join the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup for 2010.

While the best of this year’s Rookies like Kornfeil and Fagerhaug look to continue their careers in the 125 GP World Championship, many of the others will remain in the Cup for another season until the best of them can also make the step to the professional level.

The calendar for the 2010 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup has yet to be finalized, but it will continue to run alongside the majority of the European MotoGP races and is due to start next year in Jerez at the Spanish Grand Prix.
