When he first saw the kid ride, the greatest motorcycle racer of all time, Kenny Roberts, commented…..”reminds me of me when I was his age”. That was at the Lodi Cycle Bowl, in Northern California, at a ¼ mile dirt-track race a few years ago, and everyone who’s seen “Stevie” Bonsey ride says pretty much the same thing….the kid can RIDE!

Come July 30-Aug 2 the rest of the world is going to get a real good look at “the kid”, as he competes for the first time in one of the biggest televised events anywhere, in a racing discipline he’s never ridden, Moto X Supermoto, during the ESPN produced Summer X Games 15.

In a deal that got dialed in just this past weekend, Salinas California’s, Bonsey, via his mentor and friend, Ray Abrams, of A&A Racing, will be riding with the go-to team in American Supermoto, the Roger Hensley run, CHM Exhaust/Pro Honda Oils/Sunoco Race Fuels, Supermoto Racing Team on a Honda CRF450R.

Stevie will be joining Placentia California’s, Micky Dymond, France’s Sylvain Bidart, Mt. Airy, Connecticut’s Jason Conlon and Temecula California’s, Dustin Hoffman, to generate the biggest single team ever in X Games Moto X history.

Says Abrams, who has seen some of the greatest racers of all time, and who sponsored King Kenny when he was dirt-track #80, “this kids got a gyro in his butt…..he can adapt to anything, I have no doubt that Stevie will go real well, really quickly”.

Having been the recipient of the prestigious Horizon Award for Dirt Track in 2005 and the winner of the Pro Sport National Championship in 2006, Bonsey caught the attention of the man who had groomed more than a couple riders to transition from dirt to asphalt, including his own son, Kenny Roberts Jr.

Bonsey has been away from the USA racing scene for over two years after getting the opportunity to ride GP’s in Europe with support from KR Sr.  While overseas, he showed incredible talent in immediately adapting and going quick on 125’s in 2007/08….(15th overall in ’08 125 World Championship) then two races this year on a 250 despite equipment that at times was not quite competitive, followed by the folding of the team due to funding issues.

Before heading off to Europe this year Stevie got an opportunity to ride at the Springfield Mile/TT, AMA Dirt-Track event.

Even though he hadn’t put a leg over a dirt bike in almost two years, Bonsey, was again impressive in earning a 9th place finish in the TT and then stunning everyone by qualifying 4th in his first EVER Mile event the next day! A motor failure DNF’d him in the main but “the kid” once again showed that he can ride!

Stevie will be testing this week with Micky Dymond…(a great Supermoto pavement mentor to say the least) while getting the bike that Aurelien Grelier rode a few weeks back, at the last XTRM/AMA Supermoto round in Las Vegas, dialed in. So even though a particular Yamaha rider named Stewart may be getting a lot of attention coming INTO “The Games”……there’s a “kid” who might just steal everyone’s spotlight AT them!

Stevie would like to thank the sponsors that are supporting him personally. Top 1 Oil Products, A & A Racing Service, Super Moto Engineering, Vemar Helmets, Alpinestars, Motion Pro & Bert Toth.
