Christopher Michael Sypniewski

For this week's Sponsorhouse.com Privateer Profile, we head back to the great state of New Jersey. Although Christopher Sypniewski calls Summit Point, WV his home track, you'll find his favorite track even farther from his home—in Ontario. We hope he'll be able to put his one-year membership to Sponsorhouse.com to good use this year. Good luck, Chris!

How long have you been racing?
Going into my second season this year.

How did you get started in racing?
I began doing trackdays with Team Promotion 4 years ago. I had a pretty horrible accident on the street the summer on 2004, which totaled my bike. With the racetrack quickly becoming an obsession I rebuilt my bike from the frame up over the winter. I took what was back then the ART-Limited Program with TPM which put me where I am today, racing with CCS.

Why do you race?
I have always had a highly competitive attitude. The feeling that you get at 150+ mph with half an inch between your elbow and the racers next to you on the back straight is incredible. Almost swapping paint leaned over into turn one with 30 other bikes, a feeling I don't think any racer can actually describe well enough. There's an incredible amount of trust out there that is just understood by everyone. It’s indescribable.

Which racing schools have you attended?
Team Promotions ART-Limited (now titled ART-RACE). Also I have Corner worked for/participated in Keith Codes California Superbike School At Pocono Raceway. An experience I would recommend to anyone on a Sportbike.

What is your favorite track?
MoSport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario. The fastest track I've been to thus far.

What's your proudest moment in racing?
The Heavyweight Superbike race in the summer of 2005. Battling it out for the last three laps with a Ducati 999 on my CBR600RR. Changing positions on the last lap back and forth about 8 times and me taking him over the line by less then a foot.

Your lowest moment?
Eight laps into the July 4th GTU race I went from 24th position to 13th and was gaining on the next pack. It was shaping up to be my best finish of the year. A Red flag due to a multi bike crash put us back on the grid for around 20 minutes in the 100 degree weather. By the time we were given the go I was overheated and was forced to get back into the paddock due to heat exhaustion.

What's the best thing about racing?
The atmosphere at the racetrack. At times the paddock is the most relaxing place in the world, yet it can be the most hectic. The people you meet and the friendships that are based upon it are amazing.

The worst thing?
Crashing, and as I'm sure most every other amateur racer would agree, the cost.

What do you consider your strong point as a racer?
I would have to say my strong point is my drive to continuously better my skills. I'm always eager to get advice from others and talk with other racers afterwards and try and figure out where I might have done poorly and where I excelled.

Your weak point?
Braking. I have been told numerous times by competitors after a race that I was braking too early. Something I plan to work on this coming season. I believe I can loose a few seconds a lap if I concentrating on braking later into every corner.

Who is your strongest competitor?
My friend/partner Drew. We began riding on the track the same day years ago and have helped each other progress to where we both are now. If he's not in front of me I always know he's most likely right on my tail.

Who is your biggest supporter?
My mom, even though she doesn't share quite the same passion for the sport that I do.

Do you have a favorite racer?
John Hopkins

What are your future racing goals?
Just to continue to enjoy myself and stay safe. Of course a big plus would be a podium finish. But I'm happy just being out there. There's nothing like this sport.
