Crystal Campagna
New York's Crystal Campagna has been fortunate in her first year of road racing. You could even say she was fortunate to be able to compete last year, receiving her racing licence simply because of her unwillingness to give up after a crash (ok, and she has skills, too). If she ever crashes her bike in a race, she's fortunate to have a mother who's willing to share her Ducati with her. Our friends over at Sponsorhouse.com are going to hook Crystal up with a free one-year membership, and who knows, maybe one day you'll see mom featured on Sponsorhouse.com's Privateer Profile!
How long have you been racing?
One year.
How did you get started in racing?
I crashed! I went to a track day at Loudon, New Hampshire and highsided on my Yamaha R6. I was so happy about how I was riding before I crashed, I went out the next session on my mothers Ducati. Due to my drive to not give up, the coordinators of the track day offered to sponsor me to receive my race license!
Why do you race?
Besides being addicted I race because I love the highly competitive nature of the sport, the challenge to push myself, the risk involved, and the whole atmosphere that surrounds you at the track.
Which racing schools have you attended?
Penguin Roadracing School, NH.
What is your favorite track?
Virginia International Speedway.
What's your proudest moment in racing?
My first race weekend. I am vertically challenged at 4'10 and that weekend I proved to myself that, although I may look ridiculous stopping, it has no impact on my ability to ride well.
Your lowest moment?
I was leading a GTL race and lost because of engine failure.
What's the best thing about racing?
I would be lying if I didn't say winning.
The worst thing?
The high cost.
What do you consider your strong point as a racer?
I have a lot of energy and I mean that in the terms of enthusiasm. I absolutely love racing and am not afraid of failure. When I do make a mistake I try to learn from it so that I can only improve the next lap around the track.
Your weak point?
I drag raced before I started road racing. This mentally has followed me to road racing. While I often have high adrenaline and quick reaction times I have not fully developed my ability of taking that into turn one.
Who is your strongest competitor?
Myself, when I race the only person I am trying to beat is myself. I
am trying to do the best I possibly can every time I race.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My father, my number one fan and dedicated mechanic.
Do you have a favorite racer?
Valentino Rossi!
What are your future racing goals?
To race in the USGPRU race series and as many CCS events as I can possibly afford. I am willing to make the sacrifice of living in my van if it means I can enter more races.
